About Us
Can a design shop build technically brilliant applications? Can a development shop design creative, elegant interfaces? Shotwell was founded by a designer and a developer, each of whom has practiced the other’s trade. This deep, cross-functional experience has helped bring clients’ visions to life on the web, and it has done so without compromising design or functionality. We live and breathe both.
Since its founding in 2008, Shotwell has grown to 12 designers, developers, producers and strategists with team members in Montreal, San Diego, Los Angeles and New Mexico. We lead all our collaborative projects from our home base in downtown San Francisco. We believe in measurable results, in advocating for the user, and in respect for our clients’ greater organizational goals.
Tyler Martin
Partner, Interactive Director
Tyler started programming when he was 12 and has been in the Web game for over 10 years. He's built several of his own businesses and loves the entrepreneurial spirit of the Bay Area. He wears many hats around the office, including project manager, financial officer and operations management. He's in heaven on those occasions when he gets to dig into information heuristics, source code or interface design.
Marc Katzschner
Partner, Creative Director
Marc has been a User Experience and User Interface designer in interactive media since 1995. He has created countless site and application “front ends” for clients in both the non-profit and for-profit worlds. His credo is to advocate for the user. His fluency in negotiating between client need, visual aesthetic, and technical requirements make him the consummate Web professional and point-of-contact for all participants in the projects he leads.
Gabriel Boucher
Senior Developer
Gabriel has over 8 years experience developing custom Web applications and content management systems, both from the ground up and to extend existing systems. He has variously been described as a “brilliant developer, who can make anything happen,” as “extremely solutions-oriented,” and as “magic.”
Lorna Turner
Multidisciplinary Graphic Designer
Lorna is a seasoned designer with a large portfolio that spans accross practically all media, from print to web to dimensional spaces. She's a graduate of the Royal College of Art in London, where she received her Masters in Communication Art and Design. At Shotwell she works with startups and established companies, broading the scope of marketing materials for each client (logos, site design and more).
Melissa Kelly
Junior Designer
Melissa attends the Academy of Art for graphic design while she works on design and development projects for Shotwell. She's actively learning ExpressionEngine whenever she gets the opportunity and brings experience in Wordpress to the team. She is a California native and enjoys the San Francisco culture. You'll find her at SFMOMA on the weekends.
Caroline Blaker
ExpressionEngine Developer
Caroline specializes in helping Shotwell build multi-lingual sites in ExpressionEngine. Her eye for design and code warrior spirit make for a formidable web designer and clutch teammate.
Jasmin Auger
Flash Developer
Jasmin is one of the most talented Flash engineers we've run across. He is our ActionScript, Javascript and database Sous-chef de cuisine. When he's not writing code he's flying down the open roads of Quebec countryside on his motorcycle.
Ion Kyo
Web Designer
Ion works remotely from... many places. Taiwan, Australia and Barcelona have all been home to Ion and her design is authoritatively influenced by those cultures as well as her deep knowledge of design and the arts.
At Shotwell we wear our values on our sleeve, focusing on non-profit, triple-bottom-line and entrepreneurial endeavors. We’ve worked with big names (Cisco, HP, AT&T) but we're very much invested in bringing that big expertise to companies and organizations of any size. Sometimes it’s because it makes us feel good; sometimes it’s because we’re fascinated by what our clients do. It’s our privilege to work with start-ups, international organizations and those who make the world a better place. Along the way we’ve picked up a lot of experience in other sectors such as entertainment, architecture and design. If you feel that Shotwell’s values are in line with those of your organization, we’d love to chat.
